问: 这等罪为什么叫小罪？
Ｑ: Why are such sins called venial sins?
答: 因为不使人离弃自己的终向，也不使人失落超性的生命，且在告解以外也能得赦。
Ａ: These sins are called venial sins because they do not separate the soul from its last end, nor destroy its supernatural life; also, they can be forgiven outside confession.
问: 犯小罪有什么害处？
Ｑ: What are the evil effects of venial sins?
答: 减少人的热心，使人渐渐陷于大罪，又使人应受许多的暂罚。 （德 19:1；玛 12:36） Ａ: Venial sins lessen our fervour, lead us gradually to fall into mortal sin, and make us deserve much temporal punishment. (Sir 19:1; Mt 12:36)
22、七罪宗 The Seven Capital Sins
问: 七罪宗是那七样？
Ｑ: What are the seven capital sins?
答: 就是骄傲、悭吝、迷色、忿怒、嫉妒、贪饕、懒惰。
Ａ: The seven capital sins are: pride, covetousness, lust, anger, envy, gluttony, sloth.
23、德行 The Virtues
问: 除了躲避犯罪以外，还该做什么？
Ｑ: What else should we do besides avoiding sin?
答: 该勉励修各样的德行。
Ａ: Besides avoiding sin, we should strive to practise virtues.
问: 德行是什么？ Ｑ: What is a virtue?
答: 是行善避恶的恒久习惯。
Ａ: A virtue is a permanent habit, leading us to do good and to avoid evil.
问: 德行分几样？
Ｑ: How many kinds of virtues are there?
答: 分两样：就是向天主之德，及行为之德。
Ａ: There are two kinds of virtues, theological virtues and moral virtues. Theological virtues are virtues which have God as their object. Moral virtues are virtues which regulate our conduct.
问: 什么是向天主之德？ Ｑ: What are theological virtues?
答: 就是信、望、爱三德。 （格前 13:13）
Ａ: The theological virtues are the three virtues of faith, hope and charity. (1Cor 13:13)

问: 信德是什么？ Ｑ: What is faith?
答: 是直向天主的超性之德，叫我们全信天主各端道理，因为天主不能差错，也不能虚言。 （若 3:31-33；希 11:1-2）
Ａ: Faith is a supernatural theological virtue by which we believe all that God teaches, because God cannot err, and cannot deceive us. (Jn 3:31-33; Heb 11:1-2)
问: 望德是什么？ Ｑ: What is hope?
答: 是直向天主的超性之德，盼望天主的仁慈，因耶稣的功劳，在世上赏我们要紧的圣宠，死后赏我们永远的真福。 （罗 8:24-25）
Ａ: Hope is a supernatural theological virtue, by which we trust in God's mercy, hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ, that He will give us here on earth all necessary graces, and after death everlasting happiness. (Rom 8:24-25)
问: 爱德是什么？ Ｑ: What is charity?
答: 是直向天主的超性之德，叫我们因天主无穷美善，爱天主在万有之上，又为天主爱人如己。 （格前 13:1-7）
Ａ: Charity is a supernatural theological virtue, by which we love God above all things because He is infinitely good, and love our neighbour as ourselves for the love of God. (1Cor 13:1-7)
25、四枢德 The Four Cardinal Virtues
问: 行为之德，有什么总纲？
Ｑ: What are the most fundamental of the moral virtues?
答: 有四枢德：就是智德、义德、勇德、节德。 （智 8:7）
Ａ: The most fundamental of the moral virtues are the four cardinal virtues, Prudence, Justice, Fortitude, Temperance. (Wis 8:7)
问: 这四德为什么叫四枢德？
Ｑ: Why are they called cardinal virtues?
答: 因为是诸德的枢纽，无论什么德行，都是离不了这四德的。
Ａ: They are called cardinal virtues because they are as it were, the hinges on which all the other virtues turn. Without them there can be no virtue.
26、爱人的本分 The Duty of Loving One's Neighbour
问: 我们各自修德，独善其身，就够了么？
Ｑ: Is it sufficient for each of us to cultivate virtue for himself alone?
答: 不够，还该爱人如己，按自己的力量行哀矜。 （玛 22:39；若一 3:17-18）
Ａ: It is not sufficient; we must also love our neighbour as ourselves and perform works of mercy according to our power. (Mt 22:39; 1Jn 3:17-18)
问: 哀矜有几样？
Ｑ: How many kinds of works of mercy are there?
答: 有神哀矜、形哀矜两样。
Ａ: There are two kinds of works of mercy: spiritual and corporal.
问: 什么是神哀矜？
Ｑ: What are the spiritual works of mercy?
答: 就是解人疑惑，教导愚蒙，劝人回改，安慰忧苦，赦人侮辱，忍耐磨难，又为生者死者祈求。 Ａ: The spiritual works of mercy are: to give counsel to the doubting; to instruct the ignorant; to call sinners to repentance; to comfort the sorrowing; to forgive injuries; to be patient under suffering;
and to pray for the living and the dead.
问: 什么是形哀矜？
Ｑ: What are the corporal works of mercy?
答: 就是饥者食之，渴者饮之，祼者衣之，收留旅人，照顾病人，探望囚者，埋葬死者。
Ａ: The corporal works of mercy are: to feed the hungry; to give drink to the thirsty; to clothe the naked; to give shelter to travellers; to attend the sick; to visit those in prison; to bury the dead.
问: 爱人如己的诫命，也叫我们爱仇人么？
Ｑ: Does the commandment to love our neighbour as ourselves bind us also to love our enemies?
答: 也叫我们真心爱仇人。 （玛 5:43-48）
Ａ: Yes, it also binds us sincerely to love our enemies. (Mt 5:43-48)
