A. Finish your first draft using the outline above in Task 5. The following structure may offer you some strategies: Introduction ? Describe the subjects you are going to compare and contrast. ? Clearly state the purpose of this comparison and contrast in your thesis. Body ? Present the similarities and/or differences of your subjects in a clear sequence. ? Organize the details in a way that best serves your purpose. Conclusion ? Restate the two subjects and the main points of similarity or difference.

B. Revise: Read through your essay carefully and make notes on each of the following questions. Then revise it and make your self-evaluation. 1. Read the introductory paragraph. Does it tell you whom you are

going to compare/contrast and what point you are going to make through this comparison/contrast?

2. Is there a clearly stated thesis that ties the essay together?

3. Are the paragraphs well organized? Are there any specific details to support the general ideas? Are they well organized? 4. Are the body paragraphs arranged in a logical order?

5. Does the concluding paragraph restate the purpose of your essay? C. Group work: Peer review

Ask a group member to read your essay and answer the following questions. He/she would comment on the essay.

1. Does the thesis statement prepare you for the rest fo the paper? 2. Are you clear about the similarities/differences between the two items?

3. Can you draw similar conclusions if you follow the author’s way of development? Why?
