history and they‘re very beautiful.
2. Solid soap is more pleasant.
Smelling a plastic bottle doesn‘t feel very comfortable, while you can get bars of different textures and smells – some bars have sea salt, nuts, fruits or flowers in them for a bit of a surprise. Others come in beautiful or even funny shapes and sizes. You can tie attractive bars of soap up in silk ribbons (丝带) and present them as a gift to a loved one – the effect isn‘t quite the same when you do this with a liquid soap.
3. Less packaging (包装) is better for the planet.
All those bottles has to come from somewhere and go somewhere. Recycling can only do so much, whereas typically a bar of soap comes in a little paper wrapper and that‘s it. If you care about the environment, you can even buy bars of soap without paper around them. ―And about 60% of the cost of a bottle of soap goes on the packaging and the pump (泵头).‖ says Constantine.
4. The bottles are a little bit difficult.
You can hold a bar of soap in one hand and it works. With the bottles you first have to use both hands to unlock the pump, and shut your eyes to the liquid slowly dropping the sticky thing onto your bathroom floor. When the bar of soap runs down, you can still use it until it is no more, but with the liquid soap it is a difficult task to get the last drop out of the bottom. 【 】48. Some people say that today, reading is not as important as it was. These days we have photographs, films, radio and television. Why read a description of something when you can look at a photograph? Why read a newspaper when the latest news is brought to us every hour on radio and TV?
Photography was certainly a wonderful invention. Photographs can give a very clear idea of places and of people that we have never seen. An encyclopedia (百科全书) , for example, is always better when it has good illustrations. But we also need words to explain the photographs and drawings. A photograph of an elephant may give us a very good idea of what an elephant looks like, but it tells us nothing about the different sorts of elephants there are and where they are found, their exact size and weight, how they can be useful to man and so on.
In the same way, a good film has action, movement, color, and maybe music.
These are things we do not find on the printed page. But reading a novel has certain advantages over watching even an excellent feature film. Reading a novel requires imagination. Each of us imagines a story differently.
Watching news on television can certainly be exciting. But we need newspapers as well. Some important news stories happen when there are no cameras around. More importantly, a newspaper does not just report the news. It explains why something has been happening. It also contains interesting articles on different subjects. Newspapers are an important part of our lives, if we want to understand what is going on in the places we live as well as in other parts of the world.
Reading is very important for information and pleasure. We need to be good readers to enjoy a full life as human beings. Reading is a skill and like other skills, it needs practice. The more we read, the better readers we become. And the better readers we become, the more we enjoy reading! The secret is to get the reading habit. Read at least a little every day.
48. According to Paragraph 2, photographs can give us __________.
A. enough information about people and places B. no information about things
C. some information about things but not enough D. the wrong information about things 49. Newspapers contain __________.
A. more information than television B. less information than television C. more news from other countries
D. less information about important events than TV 50. What are the advantages of novel over a feature film?
A. There are more interesting subjects in novels. B. We do not hear any music in a novel.
C. Novels always explain what is happening. D. Novels make us use our imagination. 51. What does the author think about reading?
A. It is a wonderful invention.
B. It is an important part of our lives. C. It requires no practices.
D. It is not as important as television.

Looking for an original way to raise money for charity? Has your school run out of clever and fun ideas? Don‘t give up. There are several ways to support your favorite charity and enjoy yourselves at the same time.
How about holding a bean bath competition? ―How does this help?‖you may ask yourselves. Well, it‘s very simple really- you agree to sit in a bath full of baked beans, then for every minute you stay in it, people pay money! The longer you stay in the bath, the more money you collect for the charity your school has chosen! It‘s extremely messy, but it‘s good fun! Just a piece of advice, though. Let your parents know what you‘re doing. Wear old clothes because they‘re going to need washing after the competition! Here‘s another idea that we used at my school: organize a car wash. Everybody who has a car sooner or later washes it or has it washed. So why don‘t you and your classmates do the job? The money the car owners pay for having their cars washed will go towards your charity. When we did it, we had an amazing time! At first, some of us were worried about getting wet or dirty and it‘s true. But we also had fun, and at the end of the day it was really worth it! On the other hand, if you don‘t feel like getting wet or messy, but have some musical talent, how about organizing a street concert? Street musicians can make a lot of money and so can you if you‘ve got the talent and courage it takes to play in front of an audience. You just need to find a suitable place (make sure you‘re allowed to play music in that public place), practise for a few hours with your friends first, and give it a try! I hope all these ideas have helped you a bit, and if you‘ve got any other great suggestions, we would love to hear them. We can publish them, so other people can use them, too. Good luck! 48. Holding a bean bath competition, you would______. A. ask yourselves many questions B. sit in a bath full of baked beans C. put on old clothes after the bath D. ask your parents to wash the clothes 49. What did the writer think of the car wash? A. He thought they could have fun. B. He was upset about getting wet. C. He thought many students were too worried. D. He thought it was an easy way to collect money. 50. From the passage we can know the writer is a ___________. A. parent B. student C. driver D. singer 51. The writer writes this passage to_____________. A. ask readers to do something funny for charity B. tell readers about charity events they can go to C. suggest fun ideas for people to raise money for charity D. show some ways for people to organize charity events

Alexis Martin is a three-year-old girl from Arizona. She hasn‘t started kindergarten(幼儿园)yet, but she has an IQ above 160, which is well above the average (一般的)people‘s IQ. So, there is no wonder that she has become the youngest member of Mensa, the largest and oldest high IQ society in the world. Mensa is an international club whose members must have an IQ score in the top 2% of the world. Currently, Mensa has 3,300 members under the age of 18 in the U.S. Alexis is one of them.
The average people generally have an IQ score of 100 points, but Alexis scored 160 points, the highest score on the test. The doctors who tested Alexis said she scored so high that they couldn‘t even work out her IQ exactly. They think she is even smarter than 99.9% ofthe world population. Actually, she matched the IQs of talents like Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates.
I an Martin, Alexis‘ father, said his daughter showed signs of some special abilities at the age of one and she began reading books for pupils when she was just two years old. Now at the age of three, Alexis is reading on a fifth gradelevel.
―From 12 months old, we‘d be driving around in the car and she would repeat her bedtimestories from the night before,‖he said. ―She didn‘t just repeat them. She could remember every word of them exactly.‖
Ian Martin thinks his daughter also stands out when it comes to learning new
languages. ―Anytime she learns a word and just picks it up through anything. She never ever uses it in the incorrect situation, ever.‖Ian said.
While Alexis‘s parents are proud that their three-year-old daughter has become a member in Mensa, they are also aware of the price that comes with every gift. The doctors say Alexis should never attend a normal school and children with her level of intelligence(智力)
often experience high anxiety(焦虑) unless they‘re around similarly gifted boys and
girls. Her parents decide to follow the advice and try to look for proper ways to help her get involved into society.
