There is no denying that so many fantastic characters have been created by ancient Chinese novelists. In the novel of Journey to the West, Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, is born with supernatural powers. Through Taoist practices, he learns the 72 transformations, allowing him to transform into various animals and objects. Sun Wukong is so brave to fight against various evil spirits all the way and he is so faithful to his master Tangseng despite misunderstanding, making the journey to the western paradise successful. To some extent, Sun Wukong is rebellious, but his always speaking the truth, even in the face of the power or authority, is the most
important reason why I consider Sun as my favorite character.
Classics open up a window to different worlds and different cultures. I do hope that Chinese classic literature will deepen your understanding of China.
