一、故事梗概
《快乐王子》是王尔德最著名的童话之一。快乐王子活着的时候生活在皇宫里,过着快乐的生活。死后他被做成高高的雕像,身上覆盖着金片和宝石。他看到了人间的丑恶和穷苦,忍不住流下了眼泪。在燕子的帮助下,他把身上所有值钱的东西都施舍给了穷人(剑柄上的红宝石送给了一个贫苦的妈妈;作眼用的两颗宝石分别给了饥寒交迫的作家和一个卖火柴的贫苦小女孩;身上的金片被一点点剥下来送给了穷人),最后变得黯淡无光(快乐王子是美的化身,他这种为了他人的幸福而牺牲自己的精神是无比崇高的)。最后,快乐王子被扔进了熔炉,而他的心无法熔化,最终和死去的燕子一起被扔进了垃圾堆。上帝让天使把“这个城市最珍贵的两件东西”拿去给他,天使带回了快乐王子的心和死去的燕子。内在美不如外在美那么赏心悦目,但却是最珍贵的。
