摘要: We investigate the effects of focal firm knowledge intensity and uncertainty on inter-organizational trust and subsequent performance of small and medium size enterprises (SMEs). We integrate the trust literature with transaction cost literature as both of these offer partial explanations of the dynamics of inter-organizational trust in the context of an SME. We propose that knowledge intensity of the focal firm will have a positive relationship while uncertainty will have a negative relationship with

inter-organizational trust in an exchange relationship. Further, we propose a positive relationship between trust and SMEperformance, which will be contingent on the level of external and internal uncertainty faced by the focal firm. Empirical evidence, based on the survey data of 565 German SMEs, mostly supports our arguments. 入藏号: WOS:000297510600003 文献类型: Article

摘要: The impact of clusterization on the development of SME sector has been analysed in this study. The cooperation of companies at national level and on a global scale is becoming more and more important as a tool of economic development. Companies tend to work together in order to share their competencies, reduce various costs, consolidate limited resources, and hereby increase their productivity, innovativeness, and profitability. It must be emphasized that the role of clusterization is crucial in the development of SME sector, as small and medium-sized enterprises may benefit from economies of scale and extend the operation limits (size-related limitations of operation are characteristic of most small businesses). Clusters (and similar forms of interorganizational structures) create the environment for innovation and technological advancement. Therefore, small and medium-sized enterprises may gain additional benefits that include know-how, cost-saving options, innovative solutions, etc. The authors of this scientific study have concluded that the competitiveness of SME sector is closely related to the spread and extent of clusterization processes. 入藏号: WOS:000270403000007 文献类型: Article 语种: English

摘要: This paper analyzes the relationship between the relative size of the small and medium enterprise (SME) Sector and the business environment in 76 countries. The paper first describes a new and unique cross-country database that presents consistent and comparable information on the contribution of theSME sector to total employment in manufacturing and GDP across different countries. We then relate the importance of SMEs and the informal economy to indicators of different dimensions of the business environment. We find that several dimensions of the business environment, such as lower costs of entry and better credit information sharing are associated with a larger size of the SME sector, while higher exit costs are associated with a larger informal economy. 入藏号: WOS:000251369000004 文献类型: Article 语种: English

摘要: The implementation of enterprise systems has yielded mixed and unpredictable outcomes in organizations. Although the focus of prior research has been on training and individual self-efficacy as important enablers, we examine the roles that the social network structures of employees, and the organizational units where they work, play in influencing the postimplementation success. Data were gathered across several units within. a large organization: immediately after the implementation, six months after the implementation, and one year after the implementation. Social network analysis was used to understand the effects of network structures, and hierarchical linear modeling was used to capture the multilevel effects at unit and individual levels. At the unit level of analysis, we found that centralized structures inhibit implementation success. At the individual level of analysis, employees with high in-degree and betweenness centrality reported high task impact and information quality. We also found a cross-level effect such that central employees in centralized units reported implementation success.
